Last week the preliminary finals for 2017 were played out and they did not disappoint with both games proving to be thrilling matchups.
To kick off the round the Melbourne Storm played the Brisbane Broncos. Melbourne who are strong premiership favourites proved just how good they are with a 30-0 win over the Broncos. The first half saw a tough match between the two with only a penalty goal and a late try to Melbourne separating the teams at the break. The second half however was dominated by the Storm as they stacked on another 3 converted tries and 2 penalty goals to finish 30-0. The storm now progresses through to the Grand final and remain the favourites to win the competition.
The second game of the round saw the North Queensland Cowboys face off against the Sydney Roosters. Cowboys who have been the underdogs throughout the duration of the finals series so far were again upset winners against the Roosters defeating them 29-16. The Roosters were the favourites heading into the match as they looked to have a strong team and were well rested with the previous week off due to their week 1 finals win. However, the Cowboys proved that they were serious premiership competitors with their victory and will play Melbourne next week in the Grand final.
With the Grand final just around the corner the rugby league community are on the edge of their seats to see who will win the Premiership. The Storm are in their best form of the season and are favourites to take out the premiership but can the Cowboys pull off a miracle and provide another upset win? Whatever the outcome this Sunday there is no doubt that the fixture will provide a high quality and intense game of rugby league.
